Up until now, no aquaponic systems have been described in which modern measurement and control technology is used. Also, there are no systems with which aquaponic systems can be monitored remotely. Instead, the concepts elaborated so far have pursued a strategy of maintaining a high degree of process reliability and, associated with this, fewer demands on the qualifications of the operating personnel by ensuring lower burdens on the fish tanks.

Efficient utilisation of a closely regulated system would increase the profitability of aquaponics.
