Bioprocessing technology deals with processes in which substances are altered by biological processes. Well-known biological processes include biological clarification during sewage treatment, or the fermentation of beer and wine. Bioprocessing systems such as aquaponics or photobioreactors are complex and multi-layered. Appropriate automation technology is required to operate such systems in an economically and ecologically sustainable and reliable manner. Important operational parameters such as temperature, analyte concentrations, light input, pH levels, and oxygen content can be recorded and regulated using it. The regulation of parameters is particularly important when combining different organisms within a single system, since optimal parameters can differ for different organisms.
